CAR OF THE WEEK CONTEST

Welcome to the Sim Cyberworld Car of the Week Contest. - for Nascar 2/99 Cars (1 category), Nascar 99 Trucks, Indy Car 2 (aka Papyrus Cart Racing) and Grand Prix Legends. ALL cars submitted to the contested are also posted to our cars pages in our main page sections. Sorry folks, NO MORE, Nascar 1 or Grand Prix 2 contest in 1999 !!!

As the contest enters it's third year now we want to thank those who have submitted cars during the past two years. We have judged countless thousands of cars already and look forward too judging thousands more in the years to come.

We have worked hard to make the contest fair to everyone, so please take a moment to read through the rules. Also, please note that judges cannot enter the contest unless they do not vote in the contest themselves.

SPECIAL NOTE: Car of the week entries are due by Saturday midnight. We try to update the contest on a weekly basis, but more often than not it is updated once each month due to personal time constraints. We thank everyone for their understanding on this. We receive a large number of entries and display the top 3 entries each week on these pages. All additional entries received appear with in our car pages as we update. Because of the large number of entries and emails we receive, we do try to send thank you emails to as many of you as we can, but it is not always possible. If we do not send you a thank you email for sending in your car please do not feel as though you are being forgotten.

Also, please try to send your car in with a descriptive name if possible. Do not send in a car named t_player.pcx or t_player.car. That is the easiest way for something to get lost. Imagine a situation where 20 people send you a car named t_player.pcx once. Choosing a name like joescars.pcx makes it much easier for us to know who it is from.

The 1998 CAR OF THE YEAR WINNERS are now chosen and as in 1998, in 1999 awards will be given to our Car of the Year winners.

1998 CAR OF THE YEAR VOTES

This is how the votes came out for
the Car of the Year. Each judge was
asked to vote for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
A car recieving 1st place vote received 15
points. A car recieving a 2nd place vote
received 10 points. And a car receiving a
3rd place vote received 5 votes.

No judge with a car being considered in for
Car of the Year was allowed to vote in order
to maintain fairness. All winners need to
mail chasman@dataplusnet.com to claim their
awards.

CAR OF THE YEAR:

Only 1 rule for Car of The Year and that is that the Car of the Year entries come from the current Car of the Month winners. Then at the end of the year, we will build a carset that includes the very best cars sent to us !!!

Also, please note our strange year in the contest. The contest begins on the 1st day of December each year. This gives us the entire month to check out cars and cast our votes for the Car of the Year Winners. So that strange entry for December 1997 is actually part of the 1998 Car of the Year Contest!

Thank you and good luck.

CONTEST RULES:

1. Use original designs only. Current GP, CART, IRL, Winston Cup, BGN and Craftsman Truck entries are ok as long as they are made completely by you.

2. Submit your car by Saturday night 10pm CST.

3. Cars are judged on the following criteria: eye appeal, originality of design, how things flow together and how readable the car is.

4. Please submit a brief description of the car with the car.

5. Submit the Car as a car.pcx file. Nascar 2 competitors do not submit the car.car file.

6. Only 1 entry per week per competitor will be allowed

7. You may not update your entry during the week.

8. You may only enter a car once in the contest. No exceptions will be made. You CANNOT enter a car one week and try to enter it again in another week.

9. If you win the Car of the Week contest, you will not be allowed to enter the next week. We feel it necessary to incorporate this rule to give more people a chance to win car of the Month honors.

10. Contest judges CANNOT enter the contest unless they excuse themselves from the contest voting for the week and the other judges select a suitable replacement. Since Alternate judges do not vote regularly, they may enter the contest at anytime unless they are to be voting that week.

WHAT THE JUDGES LOOK FOR:

Many questions are asked about what we are looking for in a winning car. Here are a few guidelines that are always helpful in giving your car the best chance possible to win.

1. Use a template to paint the car.

2. Use good shading and color combinations that are eye appealing

3. Keep your car as realistic as possible. Cars with numbers misplaced and sponsor decals that are outrageous seldom have a good chance to win.

4. Detail, DETAIL !!! Pay attention to the smallest details when painting your car. Things like the location of sponsor decals, the locations of numbers, is the number on the roof upside down, the small decals on the front fenders. These all can make a huge difference if something looks out of place.

5. Take your time painting the car. Cars done in a few minutes seldom have any chance at winning. Cars that are done over a period of several hours or maybe even days are often very professionally done and stand the best chance.

GUIDELINES FOR JUDGING:

1. Be fair and impartial. Do not choose someone's car because you know the person or because you owe someone a favor.

2. Vote for the best car (in your opinion).

3. A car can only be chosen car of the week by a majority vote. Should a tie occur among three cars, then the remainder of the cars will be dropped, and we will revote until either one car wins a majority or should we revote 3 times with each vote ending in a tie, then all three cars will share the honor. This is amended below.

4 Cars are to be judged on originality of design and eye appeal.

5. Cars are to be judged on clarity of design (things flow well and not together).

6. Cars are not to be judged because of sponsorship's whom you may not agree with politically or culturally or religiously or etc...

7. The final submissions for cars will be made by Saturday midnight (CST). You will receive the cars by Sunday morning.

8. All votes must be made by Wednesday at 8am (CST).

9. ONE WINNER will be decided for each of the 4 contest divisions. Nascar 1, Nascar 2, Indy Car 2 and Grand Prix 2.

10. VOTE for a winner from each division.

11. Since the final car entries are not do unitl Saturday midnight, I ask that you not vote prior to this time.

12. Also cast votes for a second and third place winner in all contest divisions where there are 3 or more entries.

Points will be awarded each car voted for as follows:

15 pts - 1st place vote
10 pts - 2nd place vote
05 pts - 3rd place

The car with the highest total points will be the winner for the week. The car with the 2nd highest point total wins second place and the car with the 3rd highest point total wins third place.

In case of a tie, the alternate judges will vote to break the tie.
