::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :: HOW TO EDIT THE NASCAR 99 CALENDAR FILE :: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: by Chas Bornemann BB&B Track Editing Simulator Cyberworld http://www.simracing.com/simcyberworld/ Updated December 18, 1998 Ok, so this help file looks an awful lot like the old Nascar 2 help file. Well, that's because basically nothing has changed. If you can already edit calendar files from the BGN Expansion Pack, there is no need to be reading this. If you can't, well this help file is for you. To open your calendar, simply open the calendar using Notepad (a simple Windows text editor that can be found in your accessories panel). ============================================================================ TABLE 1 - Calendar (sample line) 2 2 23 0 0 ROCKING Goodwrench_Service_400 Goodwrench_400 393 event1.pcx biglogo1.pcx ============================================================================ The first thing noticeable about the calendar file is that it contains a line called SNAME. This gives the calendar file a name which appears in the game. You can call your calendar anything you want. It also appears that you can set up as many different calendars as you want although they may not all display at the same time. The calendar itself has 11 different items in it. They are: 1st - # of race of the season. These numbers MUST BE in order (ie 1,2,3 etc) 2nd - Month 3rd - Day of month 4th - Event Number at the track this season. A "0" indicated the first event while a "1" indicates the second event 5th - Day or Night race. A "0" indicates a day event while a "1" indicates a night race. 6th - The track name !!! The track name must be in CAPITAL LETTERS ! Also The track name must match EXACTLY the directory name the track resides in (ie Bristol directory must be BRISTOL). << Notice Use of Capital Letters. 7th - The event name. All words in the event name MUST BE separated by a "_". For example The Southern 500 would be written this way: The_Southern_500 8th - The event is repeated a second time and abbreviated. 9th - Number of laps in a 100% race 10th - Logo to use for single race screen 11th - Logo to use for Championship season screen ========== Below is a sample line from a calendar file for Nascar 99. 2 2 23 0 0 ROCKING Goodwrench_Service_400 Goodwrench_400 393 event1.pcx biglogo1.pcx 2 = race (line) number 2 2 = February 23 = February 23 0 = First Race at track this season 0 = It is a day race ROCKING = Race is at Rockingham. Note the exact spelling of the track directory and how it matches to the track dat file. Goodwrench_Service_400 = The full name of the race Goodwrench_400 = The name of the race that will be displayed by the sim 393 = The number of laps in a 100% race. event1.pcx = Tells the game which pcx to display. This will display in the single race mode. biglogo1.pcx = Tells the game which pcx to display. This will display in the championship season mode. ============================================================================= ============================================================================= ============================================================================= COMMON NOTES ABOUT CALENDAR FILE EDITING: 1. To edit a calendar file, simply open the calendar file in the nascar99 directory with Notepad (if using Windows) or at the DOS prompt type "Edit calendar name" (make sure you are in the nascar99 directory. 2. The most common mistake made while editing the calendar file is to have the numbers out of numerical order. If you remember from above, the first number MUST BE in numerical order. So if you place the tracks in 3,1,2 you will have problems. They must be 1,2,3 etc... I hope this helps everyone.
